Know what to do in case of a flood? Part 1

Prompt attention is of the utmost importance when flooding has occurred as water can quickly seep into walls, floors and furniture leading to rot, decay and ultimately – growth of potentially harmful bacteria and mold.

If at all possible, stop the source of water and when in doubt, turn off your water main valve. Always contact a professional when the situation is overwhelming (eg. sewage back-up).

“Contact your insurance broker immediately! Do not wait for an adjuster to arrive.”

Save yourself money and hassle. In the event that water intrusion is ignored and you fail to correct the issue by using professional services, your insurance company may deny coverage as they only compensate for immediate damages caused by a flood.

The formation of dangerous mold, fungi and other bacterial microbes is inevitable if moisture isn’t professionally removed. There is also the question of structural damage to consider as the longer you wait, the greater the amount of damage, and the longer it will take to get your life and home back to normal again.
