HEPA stands for “High Efficiency Particulate Air”. HEPA filters are designed to filter particulate matter as small as .003 of a micron in size at a 99.97% efficiency rate. All of our got mold? air filtration devices and HEPA vacuum cleaners are regularly DOP tested to make sure they are working effectively.
DOP Tested? Great, another acronym…
When a devices is DOP Tested, it is a process where the efficiency of its gas filters are tested. It was originally conceived to test HEPA filters, but it can now be applied to a range of other filter media. A liquid aerosol of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) of mean diameter 0.3 micron is produced and caused to flow toward the test medium.
The concentration of DOP upsteam of the test medium is measured and compared with that present downstream, from which the efficiency can be calculated.
When working in health care facilities or in cases where we cannot vent our air filtration devices to the outdoor environment, we have a third party perform on site DOP testing and monitor the filtered air frequently.
