What to Expect From a Mold Inspection
Recently NBC’s Rossen Reports on the Today Show, aired a video about unscrupulous mold contractors. In the video below, they put black eye shadow in three areas of the home after it was thoroughly checked by a reputable contractor, who stated that there were absolutely no problems in the home. Rossen called 8 contractors to inspect the home for mold. More than 50% of the contractors stated that the black marks on the wall were mold and that it would cost up to $10,000 to fix.

Fortunately, there are honest mold contractors who became mold remediation specialists because they truly care about helping people have healthier and safer homes. This was shown in the video. In fact, one of the contractors stated clearly that there was no mold problem and advised the home owner how to clean the areas on the wall. This honesty, indeed, has resulted in a business boom for Mr. Doug Lynch who appeared in the video.

When I showed the video to our Founder, James C. Watson, he was astounded at how quickly the unscrupulous contractors came up with their conclusions. James believes that honest mold contractors should first determine the potential cause of a mold problem in the home by asking questions to gather information on the home’s history. Here are some questions that need to be answered:
How old is the home?
Has there been any flooding issues?
Are there any moisture issues?
Is health an issue, i.e. do you feel sick when indoors but feel better when outside of the home? Respiratory problems?
Questions, plus a thorough visual inspection of all rooms in the building, will give the mold inspector a fairly good idea if there are mold issues.
If a mold problem is suspected, then the contractor will usually recommend that an air quality test and/or swab test be done to verify what type of mold is present and also determine the spore count within the home.

Have you had a positive or negative experience with a mold contractor?

We appreciate your feedback.

I have held various positions with the company, starting primarily with business development and marketing. Today, I still manage the marketing responsibilities, but have also assumed the position as CFO overseeing the financial management as well. Though the company is based in Saskatoon, SK, Canada, I work out of my home in Kingston, ON, Canada and commute often to Saskatoon to meet with other members of the Management Team.
