Renovating? Read This Message From Our President!
One of the objectives of got mold?™ is to maintain a dynamic website that is full of fresh, new, and relevant content that helps our visitors become aware of mold and asbestos. I would like to thank our Director of Business Development, Sanjay Gupta, for all of his hard work researching mold and asbestos and his dedication to the creation and promotion of such great content five days a week.
At got mold?™ we have an extraordinary team that works long hours to help as many people as possible in solving problems related to mold and asbestos.
We have been so busy that our team and I have been out in the field solving mold and asbestos concerns for our clients. Ultimately, our goal is to provide health and longevity to our customers.
Some of the issues we run into are minor, others are moderate to extreme, and some can even be deadly.
One of my goals is to share personal stories from the field. My hope is that you will share this information with friends and family too.
Recently, we received a call from a client in Saskatoon that began a renovation project. The company he hired demolished the area to be renovated. When the client got home, he found the contractors standing on a pile of materials that he thought may contain asbestos. After visiting our website and doing some research, he contacted us because of obvious concerns. A sample of the demolished materials were sent to a laboratory and it was confirmed that there was indeed asbestos in the materials that originated from Libby, Montana.
Air quality tests confirmed that asbestos fibres in the air exceeded the allowed thresholds. Luckily, our client has an alternative place to stay and moved out of the home to ensure that the health and well being of his family is not further compromised.
As you can see, what starts out as a good idea, i.e. to modernize or renovate your home or business, can turn into a potentially lethal problem; asbestos fibres, once air borne will travel throughout the home. Breathing in friable asbestos fibres is proven to cause asbestosis and mesothelioma.
Key lessons to be learned from this new client of ours are the following:
1. Before starting a renovation project, determine whether your home or business has materials that have asbestos in them.
2. Determine whether or not the project will potentially disturb the asbestos.
3. If you believe that the renovation project will release asbestos fibres into the air, then make sure you have an abatement plan in place by working with a professional
This is just one story, I look forward to passing on more stories and lessons from the field.
